This seasonal attraction is mainly open during school holidays and can be found 2 miles SW of Lyndhurst on A35. Entry is free but a donation is suggested, and the centre has an information hut and several pods housing examples of all the reptiles that are native to the UK. This is the only area that has all species living successfully, including our only venomous snake, the adder.

There is a car park, toilets, a picnic area on the green and disabled access. Dogs are welcome too. No BBQs or fires are permitted here or anywhere in the New Forest National Park. Working in conjunction with the ARC – Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, the centre has staff and volunteers on hand to help you spot the reptiles and to answer any questions.

You should spot sand lizards, smooth snakes, adders, common frogs, newts and natterjack toads. Warm sunny days give you the best chance of seeing them all as they are inclined to hide in the vegetation.

To enjoy the 1.5 km discovery trail, follow the red markers from the car park around the fairly smooth gravel tracks – some sections are also part of a cycle route. The trail goes through ancient and ornamental woodland and has many sensory activities to enjoy along the way.

The centre and trail offer a fascinating, affordable and educational trip out for all ages – set in some of the New Forest’s most stunning locations.
