With nearly 5 miles of paths and trails, within easy reach of Dibden Purlieu and Hythe, this enclosure is popular and can get busy. I must admit to never intending to go there, but full car parks elsewhere on a post-lockdown Sunday afternoon led us to try it! With its large busy car park , first impressions were not great, but, as with most of the New Forest, you can soon walk away from the crowds. Recommended as a great place for dog-walkers, there are clearly marked wide paths and smaller tracks, with some areas good for off lead exercise if your dog is under control.

With mixed woodland and plenty of streams , it can get boggy off the main paths – about 60% are gravelled, though so you could easily walk here without needing boots. Ponies and cattle use some parts. There are are higher open areas with great views in all directions, which provide a stark contrast to the wooded parts.

Local bird watching sites record sightings of lapwing, woodlark, wheatear and curlew here, and the ponds look to be teeming with life.

Dibden Enclosure offers opportunities for short walks or you could explore the whole area or you spend a day wandering around it and follow all the trails and paths.
